When renovations in 2007 perched a partial second story atop a 1957 ranch-style home in Willow Meadows, several original rooms gained high clearance (top). The project anchored its new load with 59 bell-bottom piers below and gutted out the plumbing, wiring, and lighting fixtures, among other tweaks. A week ago, the property was listed on the market with a $639,000 asking price. It had last changed hands in 2007, for $520,000.

A room with slightly raised ceiling now serving as the dining area (above) takes the front-of-house slot, with views of the street through two types of windows clad in kennel-worthy grate. The 3,204 sq.-ft. home’s double-decker features kick in around the corner, where the open floor plan takes over beneath the lofted lip of the new upstairs:

More recently added, the listing says, is a deep brick-paved porch that extends off the kitchen and has a view south across the 10,080-sq.-ft. lot:

The master suite is on the first floor. Rather than a ceiling lift, it gained a recessed dome feature. When not blinded, the wide window looks over the back yard:

The perked up master bathroom has terrazzo tile flooring:

The other first floor bedroom, used as a study, has another grate view:

In the addition upstairs, 2 secondary bedrooms share a bathroom and an open area for watching TV or anything going on below — inside and outside:

The property is located across a trickle of the Willow Waterhole Bayou from the Meyer Park shopping center. Most of the neighborhood has single-story homes; the street’s other tall structure, a church steeple at Willow Meadows Baptist Church, is in the next block east, fronting W. Bellfort St.

  • That side of WM floods like hell! You couldn’t pay me to live there!

  • I live above 2 blks over this is a really nice home I remember when they did the remodeling and added the 2nd level about 3 yrs ago. The last 4 to 6 months I think nobody lived in it I never saw anybody there kinda weird

  • This house is really well done and, true to form for homes of that caliber in the area, it’s already under contract. Just within a few days and at just shy of $200 per sqft I think that’s the highest price I’ve seen for that section. But, it’s zoned to Bellaire HS.
