Dallas Supermarket Chain Grabbing Half of Fallas at I-45 and Tidwell

The signage above Fallas’ storefront — pictured above — has already come down, reports an employee of a neighboring business. Now on its way to that 25,480-sq.-ft. space in the chamfered corner of the L-shaped Northtown Plaza shopping center: Dallas supermarket El Rancho. A building permit was filed yesterday for the grocery conversion. It’s the second location that the North Texas chain has in the works for Houston; a Greenspoint location 6 miles up I-45 is planned to open in June.

But Fallas’ discount clothing presence won’t be entirely displaced by the new supermarket:

Its 28,700-sq.-ft. kid’s section will stick around just west of the planned El Rancho, bookending the supermarket along with the China Border on its opposite side.

  • Might have helped with the CDs for this project

  • The lucrative grocery/meat market sector. Should be interesting El Rancho competing against La Michoacana the current dominant player and many, many other smaller mom and pops. Fiesta seems to be bowing out slowly as they sell their valuable lands.

  • El Rancho actually has three locations planned. The third is where Randall’s was until last month at the corner of Kirkwood and West Belfort, on the far edge of SW Houston (but with a Stafford address). El Rancho is part owned by Albertson’s which made their takeover of that Randall’s spot easier.
