Harlow's in Edwards Grand Palace 24, 3839 Weslayan St., Greenway Plaza, Houston, 77027Tilman Fertitta’s Harlow’s Food & Fun arcade-bar-restaurant, located since the mid-aughts inside the southwest corner of the Edwards Greenway Grand Palace 24 on Weslayan St., is now closed forever, a woulda-been visitor reports. The entertainment-complex-within-an-entertainment-complex shut down by New Year’s Eve, and signage has already been pulled from the main entrance (though the explanatory yellow placard shown here is still visible behind the space’s security grate at the other entrance). The Harlow’s website has already been scrubbed and redirected to the main Landry’s page; some folks operating out of a Landry’s-branded pickup truck were spotted this afternoon cleaning up at the scene (above).

The signage on the Norfolk St. side of the theater has been removed as well:

A peek through the grate on the interior entrance reveals the mildly palm-tree-reminiscent columns:

And here’s one last look at the inside entrance to the space taken earlier this year, in full pre-closure glitz beneath the mirrored ceiling of the cinema’s atrium:

  • Back in the day it was good to get a (hard liquor) drink or two before your movie, but now in the days of places like Studio Movie Grill, Alamo Drafthouse, or my favorite, Lay Down Movie Theater (aka iPic), where a helpful waiter will bring a drink to your seat, it’s outlived its usefulness. Heck, a couple of AMCs in the area have a bar now.

Also, the teeming throngs of teenagers at that theater, and the fact that you have to pay for parking, sure didn’t help.

  • They could put a Dave & Buster’s in that space.

  • That Edwards just started serving beer and wine… For roughly the same prices as the sugar water. So good riddance to McTilman’s overpriced and understaffed frozen food emporium.

  • Did anyone every eat in there? What was the food/experience like? I used to look at it, and it always reminded me of those mediocre restaurants attached to some sort of public amusement area, and of frozen-quality. Kind of like his other restaurant chain, Rain Forest Cafe… where they ‘donate’ money to save the rain forests. Yeah.

  • I stopped in once for a drink. It was substandard, so I never went back in there. It always looked empty when I was on my way to the movies.

  • People still go to the Edwards Weslayan?

  • Wait…so the movie theatre closed or just the restaurants inside? I no longer live in the loop, so I no longer go to the movies over there.

  • Very sad about this…. it was a great place to have breakfast on weekends, and see a movie with group of friends. Food always good. I doubt I go to this cinema anymore…..Harlowes was one of reason I went… good place to have pizza and drink as well……
