El Rey’s Oak Forest Lease Is Up At The End of the Year

EL REY’S OAK FOREST LEASE IS UP AT THE END OF THE YEAR El Rey at 3330 Ella Blvd., Oak Forest, Houston, 77018The site plan for the 33 1/3 @ Thirtyfourth retail development [which — disclosure — has been sponsoring Swamplot for part of this week] shows new construction directly on top of El Rey Taqueria’s Oak Forest branch at the corner of W. 34th St. and Ella Blvd.  Crescere Capital bought the land beneath the drive-thru Cuban-Mexican taqueria-coffee-house last April, though the company has been collecting other parcels on both sides of 34th east of Ella since at least early 2014. As of now, El Rey’s lease is scheduled to run out in December, before a scheduled January construction start for the retail center. El Rey currently operates 3 other locations: along Washington Ave., along Hwy. 6 south of 290, and across I-10 from Memorial City Mall. Photo of El Rey at 3330 Ella Blvd.: Stephen G.

  • damn! I will sincerely miss them as my automatic go-to for chicken soup and the like. I hate that our back up option will be that El pollo loco a couple of doors down.

  • Since they feed half of Garden Oaks on a regular basis, we need to find them a new, convenient home. Ideas, anyone?

  • This is literally the most popular restaurant in Oak Forest, best breakfast ever! They need a spot in the new center.

  • HEALP! HEALP! MY TORTAS ARE THREATENED! HEALP!

  • Noooooooooooooooo
    oooooh
    ooooh
    ooo

El Pollo Loco’s chicken is so dry!

  • They definitely need to relocate in the OF area!!

  • If y’all can’t get in your SUVs and drive to the one on Washington then y’all are no longer Houstonians.

  • OF to Washington is not exactly a short little jaunt. Also at the end of it you end up on washington :(

  • Ugh I was thinking they would be a casualty when I saw the plans for the (stupidly named) new development at that corner. They have GOT to find a new spot in the area!

  • Love their breakfast tacos. Hope they find another location nearby. Be nice if was a little easier to get in and out of too.

  • Only time will tell if running off an obviously successful and popular tenant in favor of redevelopment was a good move on the part of the property owner.
