This baroque 8th-floor penthouse condo in the Campton at Post Oak building at 4950 Woodway Dr. north of the Galleria has been available for rent at $9,500 a month since last September (marked down from the whopping $11,500 it began with in August). But there a few things you might want to know about the 3,948-sq.-ft. pad before you sign any lease: First, the unit’s owner since 2010 is Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson — who (in case you’ve been on a news blackout for the last several months) last November pled no contest to charges of “recklessly assaulting” his 4-year-old son with a wooden switch, and was suspended from the NFL for the remainder of the season. Second: Peterson hasn’t been paying his taxes on the property; after court proceedings at which Peterson failed to appear, a tax auction was approved by a district court a few days before Christmas.

That sale is now scheduled to take place on the morning of February 3 at the Family Law Center on Congress St. downtown. The county — caring little for the fine frilly woodwork in the interiors designed by Sherri Zucker of Brittany Blake Interiors — values the condo at $336,000. (The minimum auction bid is likely to be $16,538.25.) But here’s the third thing you might want to know about the property: If you lease it now, all this “stunning” designer furniture is included:

Of course, if you’re willing to pay the first month’s rent and a deposit on the lease, it might help Peterson avoid losing the property. According to a petition to the court filed by Harris County in October, the total amount Peterson owed in back taxes was $12,339.36.

  • What’s with the tiny television?

  • @Memebag: they didn’t want to detract from the fish tank.

  • “stunning”

  • That is just ghetto-fabulous!

  • Yikes. That backsplash in the kitchen looks like a faux finish from the 90’s. I guess one could appreciate the cohesiveness of the design throughout.

“The attire for the evening will be ballgowns with powdered wigs”.

Or whatever Teresa Giudice is wearing.

  • Tsk, tsk Sherri Zucker. Furniture and finishings are in no way compatible with the bones of the building. All that goopy moulding with plate glass windows? Sheesh!

  • “Professionally” decorated???? Seriously????

  • This place is so ugly! My gosh- so outdated with appointments that do not suit the market today. Who uses gold for architectural accents outside of the middle east? Looks like the Mad Hatter’s play house.

  • Ghetto? This place is garish and overdone… But ghetto? Or is it the person, and not his taste in glamorous velvet furnishings, that is being called “ghetto”?

  • @Mel: Look up “ghetto fabulous” on Urban Dictionary. “Garish and overdone” falls under “ghetto fabulous”.

  • The two photos with the article…the lights and reflection of the dark floor onto the ceiling…. the room looks to be ON FIRE with flames and smoke up near the ceiling! Very ugly interior decor!

  • Mel, I was thinking the exact same thing! I’ve seen more garish and gaudy places on this site, and the term “ghetto fabulous” wasn’t used to describe it. SMH…

  • The term Ghetto Fabulous refers to luxury items owned by poor/poorish/middle class persons which are usually signs of prestige and affluence well beyond their finances otherwise. In this case these items aren’t beyond Adrian Peterson’s means by any stretch. I’m fairly sure TexMex made the reference because Adrian Peterson is black.

  • If he can’t afford the measly 12k in taxes, then he IS ghetto fabulous.

  • This just seems weird. Why would he let this slide for 12k in taxes?
