The tree evictions appear to have begun on the 14 acres of wooded land near the intersection of Holzworth and Spring Cypress roads marked for that Kroger Marketplace announced last year. A reader snapped some shots of spread gravel and a log stackup on the site (a piece of the larger 50-acre tract outlined in red in Read King’s leasing flier, as shown here). Preliminary plans for the broader Spring Pines Shopping Center include a slew of new retail spots near the Kroger; leasing plans for the soon-to-be-former forest note that the Kroger is almost directly across Spring Cypress from the area’s H-E-B, itself right across FM 2920 from the Aldi grocery store that moved into the area a few years ago:

The small retail strip at the corner of Spring Cypress and Holzworth, which contains the likes of Eva’s Mexican Grill, La Olla Colombian restaurant, and Texan Mattress, may serve as a minor buffer between the proposed Kroger site and its competitors.
Some trenching has also been spotted around the perimeter of the site:

looking at that red-outlined pic with all the development around it, it’s amazing that 14 acres of forest lasted so long.
Save the Truffula Trees!
Amazing/sad/annoying how much the Northern burbs have changed. Parents talked of FM 1960 being two lanes with nothing but flourishing forest on both sides. Now when I visit I don’t recognize the place myself. A few horse/cow pasture remain and even fewer tree lots. Development is fine but lack of trees and shade isn’t. Haven’t they learned anything from the Woodlands? Trees are great!
All of the trees are gone now from the image above. Gone. 50 some odd acres. Way to go Kroger.
The third grocery in this showdown isn’t Aldi–it’s Kroger’s own store a mile up the street on Holzwarth that is still under construction.
Now that Signature Kroger on Spring Stuebner is open, will a Kroger Marketplace still be built here? What other businesses will be there?
