Sunken 70s Living Room with Floating Fire Place Adrift on Lake Conroe Market at $895K

10749 Joann St., Willis, TX, 77318

Don’t fret: The dangling fireplace in this 2-story 1976 home on the eastern shore of Lake Conroe is chained securely in place in the center of the living room’s linoleum-lined couch pit. The 3-bedroom main house is planted right next to a freestanding 1-bedroom guesthouse; the 1.3-acre Willis lot also contains a no-bedroom boathouse and an insert-your-own-bedroom RV-ready metal shed. The house has been floating around on the market since July of 2015, though the price took a $54,000 dip in May.

The upturned corners of the guesthouse’s roof and toppers are visible from Joann St.:

  • WHOA! cannon ball with waterslide combo into lake! FUQ YEAH!!!!!!

  • Pretty cool spread. Dirk Diggler’s lake house? I wouldn’t change a thing.

  • We’ve been working on our own sunken living room. Technically it’s just our foundation collapsing but we like putting a positive spin on it.

Also this house is awesome. Wouldn’t take much to really bring it up to date (without losing too much of the 70s awesomeness about it.)

  • I bet the original owners had some seriously fun parties back in the day…

  • love the imperial chinese red touches and the tiki bar. so fun!

  • This must’ve been one of the first homes on the Lake. What a party place!
Until the lake was filled in late 1973, people couldn’t judge where shore was going to be… so no one was building lake-front for a while.
Also, I’ve heard, there were many many dead and dying trees cluttering up the area – not pretty or safe for boating.

  • I think Austin Powers would like this house. Groovy baby! Very shagadelic.

  • that’s a cool space – great that’s it’s been preserved! would be cool to see a designer update the space but keeping it somewhat original
