Trammell Crow Planning To Plant Another Alexan Apartment Complex on Former Cornelius Nursery Site on Dairy Ashford

Cornelius Nursery, 1200 N. Dairy Ashford Rd., Energy Corridor, Houston

Remember the Cornelius Nursery at 1200 N. Dairy Ashford Rd. just south of I-10, which closed down at the beginning of the year? (The photos here show the establishment, which sat at the corner of St. Mary’s Ln., just before its final uprooting.) The 3-acre property, it turns out, had been bought by an entity set up by Trammell Crow Residential in early December. A new complex called the Alexan Ashford Apartments is slated for the site. At least that’s the plan.

The company picked up a demolition permit for the property yesterday.

  • That corner of Memorial is starting to look positively Gulftonian…

  • Gulftonian…lol

  • More crap apartment, just what the city needs!

  • I will miss that place.
Just dont understand why this city needs 15 billion apt complexes!

  • Actually two of the new apartment projects in the area replaced old more run-down apartments that were associated with crime, so on balance folks around here are more happy than not. Although a couple of them have parking structures that are taller than the living units, so the visual is a little jarring.

  • Shhh. Don’t mention Gulfton! The slum lords will hear you and buy up properties, defer maintenance on them, and pump them dry. The housing advocates will hear you and take all those units off their records, because they’re in an area of concentrated poverty and therefore should be left to whither and die. The neighbors will hear you and they’ll all leave…. In short it’ll be a self fulfilling prophesy.

  • This will be a good development in that area which is getting kind of run down with low rent businesses despite good schools and pricey housing stock.

  • I did not know that, Planner. I’m glad they replaced the older, troubled units.

  • are they really low-rent businesses though? most everything I can think of along Dairy Ashford is also replicated in high-rent districts such as montrose and uptown.

  • Everyone can’t live at City Centre. Lots of office space yet to be completed in the Energy Corridor. All those workers need to live somewhere. This location seems awfully convenient. Plus you’re so close to the freeway, you can get a whole lot of places pronto, just not during rush hour.

  • I disagree that that street has bunch of low rent businesses.
It’s average rent businesses. Sadly Cornelius was a great feature on that street. Sad that it’s gone, sadder about another apt building be build.
That apt at the north west corner of dairy ashford and memorial is horrible. The parking garage is a big eye sore.
