Zadok Trashing Washington Ave Nightclub, Getting Back to Business with Former Guadalajara Bakery Building

The pile of mangled disco parts beyond the fence pictured at top is all that remains of the less-than-2-year-old La Roux nightclub building at 4011 Washington after crews brought down the house last week. In March, a real estate company connected to Zadok Jewelers bought the entire 39,000-sq.-ft. block on Washington between Leverkuhn and Jackson Hill St. La Roux was evicted earlier this year.

The club’s entrance was off Leverkuhn:

Construction on the building began in 2014 behind and around the adjacent 2-story, 1930 brick building formerly occupied by Guadalajara Bakery at 4003 Washington. A restaurant called Black Orchid Gastro Lounge was announced for the bakery building but never opened. La Roux opened next door 2 years later, in February 2016.

The 4,372-sq.-ft. former bakery building is the only structure still standing on the block. Here’s a view from the west:

A listing on LoopNet notes that the entire property is now available for lease and that the Guadalajara Bakery building is “set to undergo a major renovation.

  • That club went down so easily. It was cheaply constructed and brought trashy people to the area.

  • I had no idea the nightclub addition was ever even completed and open. Does this mean we can get Guadalajara back?

  • Was a contractor on construction of this club. Never got paid.
    Good luck to them.

  • Thank goodness that piece of crap nightclub and neighboring nightclubs, have moved on! We have lived on this street for 17 yrs. We’ve seen it all. The person who said bring Guadalajara back… I know it was a neighborhood taqueria/ pandera and the building has a historical name at the front of the building. Guessing the original building is being saved. Whoever is taking on this project must have deep pockets…. no way any of that building is up to today’s codes…

  • Getting rid of this eyesore and improving the Washington Corridor is good for the area. The will be a great compliment to the HEB project. More retail in this area will be welcome to all of who live here. Happy to see a classy company like Zadok is developing this block.
