re: Hugo Ortega opening a restaurant at the Marriott Marquis-I like his restaurants and respect her business sense, but I don’t think this will be long for the world. Houstonians just don’t drive downtown to go to a hotel restaurant. you’d really need to have lots of foot traffic like NYC to attract locals. Both the Hotel Icon and Four Seasons have tried to be destination eateries for years, with limited results.
I like Hugo’s but his Caracol restaurant is extremely over-rated and disappointing. Also looking from their finances (available to the public through certain published lawsuits) his restaurants are not very profitable at all. Quickest way to lose a million dollars is to open a trendy restaurant.
