Swamplot’s Daily Demolition Report lists buildings that received City of Houston demolition permits the previous weekday.
In which we bid adieu to remnants of 2 titans of local industry:
***
Commercial Structures
- Bob McDougal Sewing Machine Co., 1301 Yale St. 77008
- KBR, Bldg. 32A, 2828 Clinton Dr. 77020
Residences
- 6511 Westcott St. 77007
- 423 E. 41st St. 77022 (garage apartment)
anyone have info on the future of the sewing machine building? Seems too small to have many prospects, with needs for parking and street setback; seemed like its useful life was more in retrofitting the building since it was grandfathered.
It’s a cool building, with the negative-inclined front windows. Not sure about the soundness of structure behind the shop-front.
There’s parking in the back and a half-dozen or so head-in spots along 13th.
Sad to see this one go. Its so retro …
The old sewing shop is just in between Heights East and West historic districts. So, the wrecking ball is free to swing and, subject to parking/setback, etc., anything is fair game for that lot. Too bad they couldn’t take down the little strip mall with it.
