A former Riviana Foods warehouse gets shorn to make way for a drive-thru near Sawyer Heights. Plus a couple more downed houses:

Ah! So Chick Fil A finally does make its long-awaited appearance at (or near) the Sawyer Heights shopping center. CFA appears to have done an end-run around Property Commerce. . .
SO happy about the Chick-fil-A. Embarassingly happy…
chick fil a had their chances for the last 3 years here. it was their own fault for not getting this sooner. i assure you they were a first look tenant.
and so it begins the teardown of a good local company that employed many houstonians. sad to see it go to make for a restaurant but thats business i guess
@adrian – to me, the word “former” means Riviana wasn’t using it anymore. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong or clueless.
More like Riviana consolidating to Tennessee. Riviana has been slowly closing it’s doors for years. All of their 1st ware area property is on the commercial market.

Wonder if this means the end of the CFA in NW Mall, about the only reason I ever went in there.
Riviana still have their corporate offices here but their 5 plants are now all out of state, 3 in Arkansas, 1 in Tennessee and 1 in Minnesota. I’m sure there are umpteen reasons why they moved, from logistics to efficiency to being landlocked etc etc. Still sad to see this part of Houston’s industrial heritage withering away.
OMG!!! I AM AUTOMATICALLY BROKE FROM HEARING THAT MY NEW NEIGHBOR IS CHICK FIL A!!!!!!!!!!!
@jg
Just because CFA had their chance to enter the market 3 years ago, doesn’t make it their fault that its taken them this long. I can assure you that the fine folks at Property Commerce can be more than a bit challenging to deal with at times.
