Not humungous enough in River Oaks, and other woeful tales of inadequacy.

That River Oaks teardown highlighted in the photo breaks my heart. That house is gorgeous, with beautiful proportions and full of architectural character, plus the beautiful landscaping to boot. Making way for a lifeless, faux-stucco lot-line busting box in 3-2-1…
That’s a shame about that River Oaks property. I looked at the listing and at first thought it was small for the area (2600 sf) and maybe they had a point, but it’s not a particularly large lot (8500). Putting anything bigger on that lot will likely look tacky. Nice place, sorry to see it go.
Seriously??? Please tell me every inch of that beautiful Pelham Drive house is being salvaged before the wrecking ball comes in. Otherwise, please let me move that house to my lot.
Really sad about the Pelham home. I can’t believe it couldn’t be remodeled to meet a new owner’s needs.
Story of the renovation by McAlpine/Ferrier:

omg! what???? I wrote a story about this: http://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/2014/01/mcalpineferrier-renovation-in-houston.html i am shocked! what in the world. what a waste.
That Pelham demo is a god damned disgrace.
Wow that renovation was exceptionally well done. Pearls before swine I guess.
Medical Center Inn & Suites coming down? So. Main metamorphosis in full swing now. There are 13 mos to get something new up and running (Super Bowl LI).
Wait. I just heard that only the garage was being replaced !!!
Noooooo… I love that house on Pelham. It’s just a few blocks away from me. It’s so architecturally appealing and unique.
Ah, yes. The return of Swamplot means the return of the Daily Demolition Report – which means the return of my tears.
The Pelham demolition is a tragedy.
Maybe the house was haunted.
The person who wrote this article obviously did not do their research. The beloved pelham house is not being torn down. Only the garage due to black mold and structural issues. I can assure you the owners love this house as much as you do and would never tear it down. The garage will be re-built in keeping with the original character of the 1929 home.
Thank you, Emily. Just in case, though, I renew my offer to accept delivery of that house on my lot, AN-E-Time. I just need about 4 hours notice.
Ha! You got it Mel. It will be delivered with a big red bow!
I can confirm Emily’s comment, the garage only is being repaced, a much needed update. Rest assured all parties who have and had involvement in the house love it as much as possible.
