Dang it! I keep hoping the house next door will appear on this list.
So what’s with the increased demos this week? Is some demo company offering a 2-for-1 special?
Here’s a big picture map of all the demolitions this week. http://batchgeo.com/map/89c4f8392f3a5e577bb5db14b75ad2fc
Personallly kind of disappointed there aren’t more 77004 properties listed…
It is interesting to compare Ed’s map with the map of black residents: http://www.houstoninblack.com/Houston_African_American_Population_Map.jpg
Black neighborhoods in Houston are evidently very screwed up.
The 21st is City of Houston’s Demolition Day. The chron even had a story about it. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7565802.html
Thanks, Ed!
All those inspectors they mentinoed in the article are too busy driving around Montrose making sure no one is changing a light bulb with out a permit to go after the real slums
.
The city knows that going after Montrose owners with fines will result in cash coming in. Putting a $400 fine on a $17k house isn’t going to do much.
It seems that the problem isn’t lack of inspectors to note deficiencies but rather lack of enforcement to confiscate or demolish these properties.
I imagine after the first few confiscations most of the slumlords would start making the occasional repair.
REALLY THE CITY HAS IT OUT FOR YOU…REALLY…
the slumlords of montrose should keep up with the codes ….or pay the fine …….or get out of town slumlord.
Chris, some of us are Montrose residents and are buying these slums and fixing them up to make them non-slums. This is a smart thing to do as an investor and a neighbor.
Why don’t you try doing that sometime and see how easy it fighting with the city?
Or, since youll never do that, just shut your mouth, keyboard activist, and leave the heavy lifting when it comes to improving the neighborhood to the big boys.
