Today’s Sponsor of the Day is the recently renovated home at 8647 Dover St. in Glenbrook Valley. Thanks for supporting Swamplot!

The original Roman brick wraps the front, back, and sides of this 4-bedroom, 3-bath home from 1956 (yes, you read that right). It sits on an 8,250-sq.-ft. lot on the corner of Dover and Wilmerdean in Glenbrook Valley — an oasis of ’50s residential swank just one exit outside The Loop.

Inside this rambler, almost everything’s been redone: Walls have been removed to allow unimpeded views of both the front and rear yards from the main living spaces. The all-new kitchen has stainless-steel appliances and microwave, a marble subway-tile backsplash, and modern fixtures and lighting. A corner fireplace in the adjacent family area abuts a sliding glass door to the new rear deck, in a courtyard-ish portion of the back yard.

French doors lead to the deck from the Master Bedroom; on a separate wing of the U-shaped floor plan, a fourth bedroom with ensuite bath gathers light from windows on 3 sides. A 2-car attached garage faces Wilmerdean.

Take a look at the revamped interior of this home on the property website. If you like what you see, be sure to contact the listing agent, Robert Searcy of Robert Searcy Properties, for more information or an in-person tour.

Today Swamplot is brought to you by the 3-bedroom home at 5702 Warm Springs Rd. in Westbury. Thanks for the support!

What does a smart renovation of a Westbury Mod look like? The before (above) and after (at top) photos of the previously slate-slathered master bath in this 1959 property offer one suggestion. Reversing this and other unsympathetic changes made to the interior over the years, the home’s current owners have spent time and energy reversing earlier “updating” attempts (the listing agent calls it “backdating”) — to bring the house closer to its midcentury and modern roots.

This flat-roof mod has some history of its own: It was part of the Parade of Homes put on by the Greater Houston Builders Association in 1959. A wall by the entry is covered with a custom mosaic tile pattern; behind it, the den, kitchen, breakfast area, and an alcove now furnished with a tiki bar flow into each other in an expansive space. The back yard of the 8,400-sq.-ft. lot is fenced. The 2,311-sq.-ft. home features 2 separate attached single-car garages, as well as a separate storage building.

If you’d like to see for yourself the home’s new boomerang Formica surfaces, cork floors, and other era-appropriate appointments — as well as a number of original built-ins and period furnishings — you’re in luck: The home has been chosen as Houston Mod’s “Mod of the Month” for April; the organization’s open house event will take place at the property this Sunday, April 15th, from 2 to 4 pm.

To view more photos of this former Westbury show home, check out the property website. If you can’t make this weekend’s open house but would still like to see it in person, contact the listing agent, Robert Searcy of Robert Searcy Properties.

Properties that deserve attention deserve to be showcased as a  Swamplot Sponsor of the Day.

Swamplot today is brought to you by the 2-story home at 306 Sylvester Rd. in Northside Village, designed by Martin Lide. We appreciate the support!

What can you expect in a home designed by Houston architect Martin Lide? An Inner Loop location, high windows, sharply pitched roofs, bright-colored exteriors, and primarily monochromatic interiors with room for art on the walls and cool porcelain-tile floors in the main spaces — all favored for their practicality and suitability for Houston homebuyers (and the particular climate they find themselves in here). You’ll find these features and more in his latest modern design: a 3-bedroom, 2-and-a-half-bath home located just west of Lindale Park.

The main living space in this home, created by Lide’s firm Sculpturesque and pictured above, looks onto a deep fenced back yard. All bedrooms are on the second floor. The master bedroom, master bath, and walk-in closet are at the back of the home; the second bedroom is situated so that it could alternately serve as a den, office, or crib room.

This stretch of Sylvester Rd. is the westward extension (past Fulton St.) of Lindale Park’s Avenue of Oaks. The home is about a 7-minute walk from the Lindale Park light-rail station (4 blocks to the south) on Houston’s Red Line. It’s a 5-minute drive from the famed Airline Farmers Market — soon to be remade as the Houston Farmers Market.

You can find additional photos of this home on the property website, and more details — including floor plans — on the property page of Martin Lide’s website. This property is being offered for sale by Boulevard Realty agent Star Massing.

Today our thanks go to Just Buyers Houston, the Houston real estate firm that represents buyers only. Thanks for sponsoring Swamplot!

The market condition pages for townhouses and highrises have just been updated on the Just Buyers Houston website. Take a look. “If you are a highrise buyer you will find the most favorable market condition for buyers in the city,” notes Just Buyers Houston’s Judy Thompson. Demand for these units, she notes, is “not nearly as strong as it is for single-family and townhouses. Townhouses are easier to buy than single-family properties — there is more to choose from and these units generally do not sell immediately.”

You’ll find plenty more arrays of perusable stats for 21 popular neighborhoods on the Just Buyers Houston website. If you’re looking for an experienced, data-minded agent to guide you through the buying process for a highrise condo, a townhome, or a single-family home, give Judy Thompson a call.

Swamplot sponsorships are also easier to buy than a single-family home. Learn more about them here.
