Re: former AstroWorld site. Developing an educational, meeting and seasonal rodeo space. Sounds boring. Was hoping for something for more pizzazz.
The great thing about the old AstroWorld site is that it has giant car dealerships on both sides of it. If whatever HLSR builds is successful, the owners of those dealerships can make a fortune selling their properties(while still opening up new locations elsewhere) which can be utilized for residential properties since HLSR isn’t interested in that.
I’m hoping to see a “Houston Fair” during Fall presented by HLSR. They may not be able to land a UT/aTm game but they can set up a 2-3 week fair that includes TSU vs Prarie View/Sam Houston vs SFA/UH vs Rice(all 3 rivalries have already played at NRG Stadium in recent years) during that stretch of time.
To top it off we can make a giant replica statue of Selena in her purple outfit she wore in her last concert in Astrodome, greeting everyone that enters w/ her own voice even. How mad would the Texas Fair at Cotton Bowl be if this were to happen and be successful? Let’s get it done!
Re: the Republic Diner spot… This location has been home to roughly 6 different establishments over the course of a decade – I don’t know if it’s restaurant entrepreneurs taking a stab at owing a business, revamping the business they already own, or if the real estate itself is cursed… like that house in Amityville or in Poltergeist.
Re the Republic Diner – it’s had the same owner for the last three (at least) incarnations – the guy who owns Ritual on 11th.

Same owner of Pink’s pizza and Lola’s on 11th/Yale. Ritual is on White Oak and Stude. He uses that space on 11th to try new concepts. I wish he would put the Dragon Bowl back. Yummy stuff.
