NO LOCAL SPRINKLER CONTROLS FOR TEXAS That ordinance passed by West University’s city council that would have required sprinklers in all new West U homes won’t go into effect — despite the lobbying efforts of local fire chiefs. Earlier this month Governor Perry went ahead and signed a bill that takes away the right of local municipalities to create sprinkler requirements. An amendment to the bill was added shortly after West U’s ordinance passed, but is retroactive to the first of the year. [Off the Kuff; previously on Swamplot]

I’m not really sure what to make of the bill, but it does seem to me that Perry would, of all politicians, know the potential value that having sprinklers could provide during a fire.
And while I realize that installing sprinklers increases the cost of construction, I’m not sure that coming down against “safety” is all that smart either.
He probably had to get a hand free to sign the bill while he was on his knees in front of Bob Perry.
Doesn’t West U have a fire department for these kind of things(fires)?
The Villages have (had?) such an ordinance. The point being that they can spend fewer tax dollars on Fire Services if all the homes are so protected.
