The place on 33rd is cute, and I’m curious about the stove, but with one bath and a 13000 sq ft lot, it never had a chance. I wonder how many trees will get scraped off?
I would love to be able to strip all of that shiplap out of the 33rd street house before the demolition. Hopefully somebody gets it, that stuff is like gold.
Since this section of Garden Oaks sits right between a RR and 610 Loop north, it surprises me that people continue to buy and build in there. I can only surmise that they have triple-paned windows and a lot insulation. Outside would still be noisy, though one home on 33rd, I believe, has about a dozen 2-4 foot wind chimes hanging in the front yard.
I call dibs on the toilet and the vintage ceiling fans.
The HAR listing leads one to believe the house is already gone. As to the train, while Shepherd is an overpass (and therefore no train horn), Yale is a surface crossing. The train rumble is there in any event. The latest irritation for GO Section 1 residents is Cottonwood Bar and its parking and live music woes. In that Cottonwood can be heard in Section 3 (think 43rd and Shepherd, and points west), it must be something from only a couple of blocks away.
The stove is a Chambers Model B ( think it’s a B), probably from the 40’s or early 50’s. We have a 1952 Model c in Yellow. Great stoves.
I’ve lived on 34th for about 3 years now and I honestly never really notice the train or Cottonwood. Every once in awhile I hear a little rumbling from the train but the majority of the time it’s non-existent (at least to me – I’m probably numb to it all by now).
That house on 33rd has been torn down for ~6 months or so now. There are about 3 or 4 mcmansion builds in progress right now in Section 1 and another 2 or 3 houses that have been torn down within the last couple months.
