Just add another small plaque that says “states rights = slavery”. Done.
Silver lining is that even white supremacists are ashamed say out loud that they fought a war for slavery.

I would venture to say that Abe Lincoln may have had a change of heart subsequent to these quotes. There was that whole emancipation proclamation thingy….

You quoted a letter that was in response to a column by Howard Greeley working for a newspaper questioning his administrations prudence. Abe was eloquently stating his constitutional responsibilities to preserve the union as president and NOT a personally held conviction as you’re trying to invoke.
