COMMENT OF THE DAY: STILL HOLDING UP DESPITE THE FAULTY WIRING “I was an employee of — and later a friend of — Jerry J. Moore, and was the only electrical contractor he would allow to work on this property. I know it inside and out. First, as of January 2018, it is still standing. During the early 2000s it was a bit of a maintenance nightmare. It was an old electrical system. The mechanical systems were always needing work. The interior and structure were in good shape, but to be a modern home it would need to be gutted and upgraded with more modern systems. I have many good memories of Jerry and Jean and was lucky to be their friend. I hope the main house stays, but the entire area is being rebuilt with new mansions, so it may be only a matter of time . . . and money.” [James Burrell, commenting on Is Jerry J. I find it curious that no information can be found about the original owner who created the house.
Jerry Moore was a strip mall developer and he had a fantastic car collection. He died in 2008. See Wikipedia for more info.
Sacre bleu, she not only lives, she breathes! Looks like it was last sold in July 2017, for around $7.9M, and she’s had some upgrades since those 2010 pictures. Have a gander; https://www.redfin.com/TX/Houston/306-E-Friar-Tuck-Ln-77024/home/29985192

Such an American mentality. “Gosh, you have to do maintenance work sometimes. It needs to just be gutted and replaced with all new systems.” Just deal with the fact that it’s from a different time than you are. No, there are no LCD displays. It does not automatically adjust the zone temperature at 5 AM so you wake up toasty at 6. You might have to turn a knob. It’s called “roughing it.” People are crazy.
Who is going to “rough It” in a $7mil house? I would have the servants wake up at 5 AM to reset the thermostat. Then bring me my coffee at 8 AM and finally role out at about noon.
@Mike: Europe is clearly marked on every world map if you want to live in an old house that has modern services hacked into it.
Jerry Moore was the second owner Shrub.
Memebag, did it sound from my comment like I needed modern services in my old house?
.
Shrub, the phrase “roughing it” was facetious. It’s not really roughing it to turn a knob.
@Mike: Doesn’t matter. Modern services (electricity, plumbing, indoor toilets) have been hacked into all the old houses still in use. That’s the alternative to tearing down old houses and replacing them.
Meme, my comment was not about “modern services” in the sense of electricity, plumbing, and indoor toilets, but about the supposed need to update 1960’s-era services to the latest cutting-edge technology, even if it requires gutting a beautiful house. You are making wild strawman comments that have no bearing on what I’m saying.
