Aw, man. Every time I see a demo entry with brickwork like that on the Jackson house, it makes me sad, because I know no one does decorative brickwork anymore.
Yep..the proud, patinaed 1920-1940 brick buildings that represent that former trend in Houston are being erased. Those of us who appreciate them will have to settle for a scattered smattering of remaining examples. It’s a bit ironic that, in an area that proudly calls itself The Museum District, the original architecture is being trashed.
That area is full of termites. I believe I actually looked at that house a few years ago. No way would a bank finance a rehab.
Most of those houses have to come down.
