Who gets all the nice salvageable items from these tear downs? Are they removed intact and sold somewhere? Or donated to Habitat? Most of these homes have nicer interiors than my own house.
Habitat won’t take used stuff. We tried to donate some brand new light fixtures one time and were told to hit the road.
Habitat has at least one resale shop (in Stafford) full of used items. We donated some used brass light fixtures there. Don’t know if there are limits as to what they will accept.
Historic Houston takes a lot of stuff as well… They are located on Clay St. east of Waugh. Rather neat place! http://www.historichouston.org
Historic Houston also has a crew that will come remove materials prior to demilition. I had a friend use them, and the contribution really offset the cost of demo.
