  • I don’t understand. What is the Institute house missing that people want?

  • @Admirer, it’s missing that “new home smell”. I’ve actually met people who are grossed out and/or creeped out by the thought of living in a house that someone else lived in. I don’t understand it, myself, but they exist, and they’re buying up perfectly functional 90-year-old houses like this one and tearing them down to put up fake stucco crap with lick-and-stick stone, and cheap fast-growth lumber vs. the old growth wood.

  • @Admirer: The Institute house is @3500 sq ft. That is considered to be a socialist meeting hut in big money circles in Houston. Anyone living in a house that is less than 6,000 sq ft is subject to whisper campaigns on the gala circuit.

  • Old School for funniest comment of the day.

  • The demolition of the Institute Lane house is just depressing. It is a beautiful old home in a beautiful neighborhood that has clearly been kept up to date. I’m sure whatever ends up there in its place will be hideous and out of place.

  • GoogleMaster, I bet your friends would really freak out when I tell them I sleep in the bedroom where the previous owner passed away.
