    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

(Shakes fists at the merciless sky…)

    Dang. I loved that joint.

  • And yet, the downtown Days Inn escapes unharmed.

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, that does suck, my neighborhood Arandas going down! BUT, there are surely complications to this plot — that Arandas always did boffo business and was packed all the time, so they will probably just move somewhere else there on Gessner (lots of vacant space). Also, that 99 Cent store behind the Arandas went under and they’ve torn out the muffler shop on the other side. That whole acreage is probably going to get rennovated into a new strip center nightmare.

  • Those old Pizza Huts always crack me up. You can paint them, rename them, and you’re not fooling anyone.

And what IS up with that downtown Day’s Inn? Is there anything here in Swamplot archives about its status?

  • I’m glad that the Arandas and Autozone are getting knocked down. It’s close to my neighborhood and that part of Gessner desperately needs a makeover. I hope they rebuild and make it look attractive. It is always really dirty in those shopping centers.

The Day’s Inn downtown has been for sale from quite sometime. If you drive by it there is a sign hanging off the parking garage with a number to call. Anyone know how much?

  • Well, at least still Shadow Oaks still has the Jarro Cafe. Food’s better there, anyways.

  • There was an article in the Chronicle in ’08 saying that it had sold and was intended to be redeveloped into either an upscale hotel or condos. With the condo market being what it is, I can’t imagine that happening.
While I would love to see the building put to good use, if it’s going to take another however many years, just tear it down. That and the old Sheraton. Those are the two biggest eyesores downtown.

  • Arandas is seriously over rated. Decent, but over rated. Just pack up and go to the nearest taco truck or hole in the wall joint; they’re usually better.

  • The thing about Arandas is that they aren’t all the same. I’ve eaten at several, and none was as good as that one on Gessner (which happened to be near my home). The one near my office kind of sucks, unfortunately.

  • “Arandas is that they aren’t all the same. I’ve eaten at several, and none was as good as that one on Gessner”

Word — the staff was great and the food was better than average. it will be missed ..

“It’s close to my neighborhood and that part of Gessner desperately needs a makeover”

I think the same thing. lets put up another strip center that looks like every other strip center in the nation and put the same stores in there while we’re at it … down with character and everything over ten years old I say
