In the Treetops of a Kerry Glen Condo

In a bend of Buffalo Bayou north of Woodway and east of Voss Rd., the building pods of the 1967-vintage Kerry Glen community — built originally as apartments — sit amid the woodland banks. A top level unit with a view of the bayou — or at least the trees surrounding it — appeared as a listing Wednesday, with a $167,500 asking price.

A full-height window wall in the living room (above) and in the master bedroom provide the main sources of natural light within the 1,124-sq.-ft. unit. Interior rooms, such as the kitchen off the dining area (below), rely on secondary lighting — and whatever wattage passes through the doorway:

Stand in the middle of the compact 8-ft. by 8-ft. kitchen (updated at some point) and the meal prep space and appliances are within reach:

Nature provides the window treatment in the master bedroom:

Here’s the unit’s second bedroom. There’s another bathroom as well.

The balcony is semi-private; note the breeze-thru side panels:

The community, where many of the owners have lived since well into the last millennium, also has underground parking, a shaded pool, and a $604 monthly maintenance fee.

  • Yikes. Maintenance fee $604 monthly. (gotta love that extra $4)

  • This will all be bulldozed soon I’m sure, so don’t fret over the dues Colleen, the extra money is for the moving expenses

  • Agree with #1. That $7200/yr sucked the wind right out of “Wow, only $167K?”

  • For an older person or couple living in the area looking to downsize but stay in the Tanglewood area, the place is pretty reasonable even with the maintenance fee included. I lived nearby about 20 years ago and it’s very convenient to amenities and shopping.

When I lived there, Briargrove Pharmacy next to Rice Epicurean used to deliver (if you’re caring for a toddler and floored by the flu, it’s a godsend). Now there’s an outpost of St. Luke’s there. Heck, it would be great for a couple who haven’t reached their “golden years” considering it’s location–quiet neighbors, access to 1-10, Memorial, the Galleria without messing with 610, I think a new Trader Joe’s joined Kroger and Whole Foods.

  • Lived in Kerry Glen about 4 years ago. It’s a nice quiet community except for when there’s a Second Baptist sporting event going on since their field is next door. When we first moved in I thought it was an old folks home because most of the neighbors had a good 30-40 years on me. Of course at the time we rented a 1/1 all bills paid for $950 a month, so that plus the location had us sold. As for the maintenance fee, it includes water, cable, and electricity so it’s not that crazy.

  • I dont think the dues are too out of line, my condo dues in the Heights are $408. You really to need to review what all the dues cover to make an informed choice.

  • Maint fee is high because its all electric and bills paid. They all share these nasty obsolete breaker panels. Don’t ask.

Also there is a human guard at gate.

8′ ceilings, narrow stairways, smallish bedrooms. Location is great.

Tricky left turn onto Woodway without getting creamed.

  • Yeah, this is the second listing I’ve seen here this summer with maintenance that costs more than the monthly principal on the loan.

  • Lived here years ago in two different units. As others have said, the maintenance fee covers anything. That said, the location is ideal. Quiet, green and very peaceful. The neighbors look out for each other and it’s really a hidden gem. Hakeem Olajuwon used to have a place here when he played for the Rockets and we would frequently see his family and occasionally other Rockets.
