They just don’t build them the way they used to. All the “well, it’s old and dated and crumbling away” dispelled in the end by the smell of “crushed, still-good lumber.”
They saved all the trees around my building; the beautiful live oak outside my bedroom window, even the grapefruit tree, planted from seed by my neighbor. Encouraging.
its surprising how many trees were kept and it’s hopeful to see this but i sorta also think somebody is up to something… so it wouldn’t surprise me if more came down later.

My money’s on zero.
My bet is 10+, as I would think that at least some effort will be made to save those on the periphery. We’ll probably wind up with another box, but hopefully they will at least make some effort to save some of the trees (think Alexan Westheimer, some midtown complexes). If we see a couple of towers instead (doubtful), I would think even more could be saved
