A PEEK INSIDE HOUSTON’S NEW J. CREW NO. 2 That topless mannequin will likely have a coverup before tomorrow’s grand opening of the J. Crew inside CityCentre. A Swamplot reader snapped this peekaboo photo of the store’s innards yesterday, through a gap in the window paper. The only other J. Crew store in Houston is in the Galleria (there’s also one in the Katy Mills Mall). Photo: Swamplot inbox
As long as we’re counting Katy Mills as Houston, it should be pointed out that there’s a J. Crew in The Woodlands, too.
Swamplot didn’t count Katy as Houston. Neither do a lot of Houstonians.
Who does count Katy as Houston?
I always thought George Bush Park was an appropriate boundary between what should be called “Houston” and what should be called “Katy.” However, this requires suffering a weird “interzone” considering the feeder roads and Park Ten. Still, Park Ten has a feel of neutrality to it. Might still work.
As long as we’re counting stores that aren’t actually in Houston, there’s also a J Crew outlet in the Cypress Prime Outlets (in Houston’s ETJ).
A little birdie is also telling me that J Crew is moving out of the Galleria and into Highland Village.
Further adding to the Katy/Houston delineation murkiness: Katy ISD’s boundaries. The district’s attendance zone actually extends east of Dairy Ashford north of I-10. There’s a tiny slice of real estate south of I-10 that extends east of Eldridge. I used to teach at Wolfe Elementary, the little school that backs up to Highway 6 near Memorial (it’s being demolished at the end of the year and there is a new campus being built on site). That part of the district was originally Addicks ISD but was annexed long ago. There’s a map of the goofy attendance zone here: https://apps.katyisd.org/public/katyisdcampusmap/
