Neighborhood Guessing Game Over: The So Big House

We have a winner — right on the nose! Who gets that RDA membership?

Many excellent — and entertaining — guesses in this week’s competition. There were 4 for The Woodlands and 3 each for Kingwood and Katy. Sugar Land and First Colony each got 2 votes. The rest: Clear Lake, Brook Forest, Cypress, Silverlake, Bellaire, the Energy Corridor, Cinco Ranch, Kelliwood, Bay Oaks in Clear Lake, “north of I-10, directly west of Barker-Cypress Rd., off Parkview Rd.,” “near Barker Cypress,” Barker-Cypress “in the vicinity of Pine Forest Country Club,” Greenhouse, “near a Hobby Lobby,” Missouri City, Lakewood Forest, Pearland, Twin Lakes, Jersey Village, Northgate Forest, Wimberly in Deer Park, the Lakeside area (“1970s early 80s pre bust energy corridor north of Westheimer south of Memorial”), near Fry Rd. south of I-10, Meyerland, below Memorial west of Voss, and Spring.

But BenC wins this week’s prize — a one-year individual membership in the Rice Design Alliance — for this enthusiastic entry:

Lots of oversize rooms and a pool make it ideal for energy corridor expats coming over from the dreary cold homeland. An outside picture would show at least one V8 powered car/suv.

Too big for the south of I10 energy corridor, to old (black appliances) for Lakes of Eldridge. I’m guessing twin lakes. Where ever it is the agent should earn a double commission on the sale.

Here’s more detail:

***

Location: 13243 Oregold Dr., Twin Lakes
Details: 4-5 bedrooms, 3 full and 2 half baths; 6,009 sq. ft. on an 11,173-sq.-ft. lot
Price: $547,000
The Scoop: “Stately colonial is reminiscent of a European-villa w/faux finishes & wall accents.” Generously keystoned 1989 McMansion in prestigious Twin Lakes, just down the street from American Beauty Ct. Lake is just across the street. Spacious interior. Large upstairs Game Room. Generous front and side yards. Brick facing back yard tastefully splotched with simulated peeling stucco; pool has spa and rock waterfall. Waiting gracefully on the market since last June. Price already reduced $73K.

Way to go, guessers! Be sure to study hard for the next round . . . next Tuesday!

  • Faux peeling stucco. Ick. Looks like a freak windstorm hit a car detailing place and blew all the chamoises against a brick wall!

  • Okay people click on the address link and take the virtual tour and see what interior desecration you missed as well as an upclose view of the faux peeling stucco. I noticed there are hardly any lamps in this house.

  • I guess the chamoises go along with the bedroom that’s tastefully decorated with way too many red shop towels hung from the canopy?

    Congrats to BenC!

  • Other than the ‘man cave’ the master bath appears to be the only other room unmolested by craftiness; it’s so oddly unadorned!

  • There should be a special term for a home whose decor is so utterly commandeered by the lady of the house. A “Yes, Dear” Domicile, or Hobby Lobby Home, or Craft Palace. And in fairness, one too for a stereotypical manly-man’s house, one loaded with hunting trophies, duck art, rock samples, and lots and lots of wood and dark paint.

  • I like “Craft Palace.” That sort of says it all.

  • Wow, the music in the virtual tour video goes well with the decor.

  • Miz Brooke Smith– You got the Man Cave so right– But you left out that #1 indicator of the Straight Single Guy– the pool table.
Sub-categories include: a)Pool table with beer sign, b)pool table where dining room should be.

  • Yes, Harold Mandell, you are absolutely right about the pool table! It would fall in one of the many sub-categories of Bachelor Bwana home. One type, for example, has the never-been-vacuumed tan shag carpeting that the two smelly labradors just love, along with the fishing gear stored by the back door. A step up in luxury is the black commode that never shows the need for cleaning. An unused kitchen is a stereotypical sign. I will stop now lest this thread become an outlet for Swamplot ladies to describe the abodes of dates past.

  • The stucco on the exterior walls really has me stumped. Is that a “D-I-Y” kinda thing or do you think they threw the pool installer a few extra bucks to toss some mud on the walls?
I thought my neighbor’s clown and “majestic eagle” collections were weird enough, but these people are just too much for me. “If you stand still long enough, Meemaw will paint a Liger on you!” I think it will cost another $73K just to get this poor house back to vanilla status.

  • Oh my this decor is awful! I don’t know which room I like least! Ick.

  • What a huge home! I think that the pool area could be more impressive. However, if you have enough money to purchase a house like this, then you probably can afford to go to a great spa.
