COMMENT OF THE DAY: THEY COULD’VE PARKED THE SPACE SHUTTLE OVER THERE BY SECOND BASE “Why build a [hangar]? We finally had something to put in the Astrodome and we let it slip away.” [DanaX, commenting on No Shuttle Parking: Space Center Houston’s Innovative Garage Design Loses Out]

  • Brilliant. That is the first suggestion for saving the Astrodome that has made any sense.

  • I don’t know why the Chron had pictures of people crying. It’s just a museum (if that). What’s worse is the fact that the shuttle program was canceled.

  • Actually, my above comment was misplaced. I do like the idea of a shuttle in the astrodome, but not as a museum piece; instead as shuttle-related art that makes it seem like the shuttle crash landed inside the Astrodome.

  • Three shuttles on the east coast should tell every Texan what time it is.

It’s time to get madder than hell.

Where is the abject failure known as Shelia Jackson Lee on this issue?

  • Craig,

Sheila Jackson Lee was all over this issue. In fact, she held a joint press conference with Rep. Olson just a few short days ago trying to lure a shuttle to Space Center Houston. Oh, and just so you KNOW, Space Center Houston isn’t technically in HER district. NASA falls in District 22, which is covered by the Republican, Olson.

  • I’m not sure I understand… Texans are complaining that we didn’t get a space shuttle that would have cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars in construction and maintenance? I thought we all hated government programs here.

  • The entire push by Queen Sheila and Houston was too little, too late.

What I’m waiting for his to see her response; her outrage; calling it out for what it is.

The woman sounds off on everything known to man; this should be her talking point for today, but it’s nothing but crickets.

  • ME Think the shuttle is fun!!! The shuttle flys by the moon… the moon looks like cheese.. Me like cheese but it makes me toot!

me wish me roller skates were shuttles…

  • WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

    Toot toot!

Brilliant idea! But we don’t need the real space shuttle for this–a lifesize papier mache model would work just as well.

  • What is cool about a shuttle inside the dome is that both are obsolescent children of the 60’s, reminders of a bygone age when Americans believed their best days were still ahead of them.

  • And it could be called Our Happy Place.
