  • Damn that house on Jackson has impressed me for years, sad to see it go. Soon there won’t be many pre-war houses left in that part of town. That one looked neat from the outside, but of course the interior doesn’t necessarily follow.

  • It definitely is pretty on the outside.

  • Yeah, I drive by it to and from work every day. I always liked it although it looked like it had a few windows open to the elements. Anyway, it’s not so pretty now. Half the brick is gone. Maybe they’re going to try to re-use some of the brick or something? No excavator smashing yet, as of this morning.

  • marmer I was going to say the same-they must be preserving the brick-it’s laid out on pallets around the property. Superdave-if you drive around the neighborhood on the other side of 288 there are lots of houses similar still, but a lot of them are vacant…

  • What are they planning on replacing the house with ?

  • I had this house listed when it was occupied, which was years ago. The owners had ruined it with all these strange additions, skylights, etc. They had a very inflated idea of its value and my listing expired without the house selling. We never even had a showing! If I remember correctly, it did not have centrals and was kind of a mess. I am surprised it took the current owner this long to tear it down. When I had it, I think we had it at 650,000 which was a ridiculous price and that was when the market was doing really well in 2005 or so. I still wonder why I took the listing. The owners were nuts and I guess I was a little crazy too to take such an overpriced listing. Live and learn.

  • @ JCT it dOsnt seem like much has changed the listing price for the proprty is 699,000 now.

  • I drove by yesterday with the car windows open. The windows of the house were mostly removed and the musty, decayed, smell was clearly noticeable from the other (eastbound) side of Binz.

  • John, It is still way over market at 699,000. It has been on the market with the current agent almost 500 days which would indicate such. Marmer, It smelled like that when the owners lived there! Not one of the highlights of my real estate career.

  • Excavator 1, Old Red House 0. It’s just a pile of rubble now.

  • I live on Jackson, down the block from this lot. We moved into our house in January 2008. This house was vacant then and listed for nearly $1,000,000. Stunned my wife and I. After Ike, it was rented to carpetbaggers (roofers) who put about 15 laborers in it for about four months. They did not take care of the place (BBQ every day on the front porch and playing music non-stop). I used to be in the remodeling business, and this home was far past being saved. Sad, but a reality.
