Katy Main Street Looks Like a Parking Lot: Opening the Newest H-E-B

A few snippets from yesterday’s grand opening of the new 88,000 sq.-ft. H-E-B at the new “Katy Main Street” shopping center at the southwest corner of I-10 and Pin Oak Rd., just west of the Katy Mills Mall: a “Texas Front Yard” at the entrance where you can pick up mulch, bug spray, and that giant parrot-like watering yardbird you were looking all over for; a solitary “Fudgie Wudgie” fresh fudge stand; a guacamole station; and H-E-Buddy giving hugs and high fives to shoppers in the produce section. This is the fourth H-E-B in Katy. It’s adjoined by a new strip center with no current tenants.

  • I love H-E-B, but that store looks rather obnoxious.

  • If you build it, don’t they come?

  • My friend bought one of those big metal chickens a couple of years ago at the Roundtop Antique weekend.

She could have waited and bought it with her groceries! (I’m guessing it’s for sale and not just a store decoration)

  • i know, i keep seeing them at wabash and thinking they are charming and then seeing them at heb bunker hill sort of killed that feeling.

  • I hope this is what the one in Montrose is gong to look like! … Just kidding, don’t get your organic hemp panties in a bunch.

  • The inner-loop has their ugly towers of stucco town homes and we have giant HEB stores that a five year old could have designed. I guess the plus is that I don’t have to live next door to it and it is in a proper location unlike some commercial properties here in Houston. I don’t think the Montrose area will be as lucky when they build there.
