Ferns grace the interior wallcoverings (top) as well as the exterior landscaping of this 1961 custom mod in Marilyn Estates. Listed at $509K, the home presents a gated and landscaped courtyard entry (above) off the cul-de-sac of a street located a block south of Brays Bayou and west of Chimney Rock Rd. The walkway to the doubled front door is covered, but the adjacent open garden with fountain and sculpture provides a private outdoor space for rooms that face it on 3 sides of the home’s U-shaped floor plan:

The front door opens straight into a section of the 2,373-sq.-ft. floor plan that’s only one room deep; it’s the living room. The wall at the far end has been fitted with floor-to-ceiling storage around the peek-through to the kitchen:
A door at the other end leads to a hallway that serves the wing with 4 bedrooms.
The room’s opposing walls of windows face the pool (above) and front courtyard:
The painted paneling, vaulted ceiling with beam accents, built-in shelving, and fireplace, lend this set-for-dining room the aura of a repurposed den:
In the kitchen, the wallpaper goes boldly into a fern forest:
On the other side of the home, the bedroom lineup sets the master suite at the front of the home. Its shuttered windows face the courtyard:
All bedrooms have one 11-ft. dimension:
The home’s second full bathroom connects to the utility room . . .
and it has a door to the back patio — and pool:
On Sunday, there’s a open house in the afternoon.

Love the kitchen wall paper… Stunning…
That house has a boat load of storage! I like it, not that it matters.
I live a few blocks from this house. Not much to look at from the outside, but I’m sort of digging the interior. One of the things I love most about this area, is that we seem to be in the sweet spot where people are willing to put a lot of money into upgrading the existing homes, but there is very little tear down, lot-filling activity. People seem to be quite content with the mid-century ranch home as a style, not trying to stucco the exteriors (at least not with any great frequency).
