Two years ago, this previously renovated 1949 Oak Forest home sold for $189,000. Its listing last week comes with a $293,000 price tag. The property, on a street that’s mostly original housing stock, is located east of Rosslynn Rd. and around the corner from the Frank Black Middle School campus entrance on Piney Woods Dr. The back of Oak Forest Elementary School is a longer hike east toward 43rd St.

HCAD records show some remodeling took place in 2007, but the 1,302-sq.-ft. home appears to have had some more recent updates. Both the living room (above) and dining room (below) front the street. French doors open to a flagstone patio at the end of the double driveway out front — where a carport once stood. (It’s still visible in the Google Street View attached to the listing.)
Among the kitchen’s updates are recessed lighting above the apple green tile of the back splash, stone flooring, and butcher-block countertops.
A handy hallway off the entry separates the living room from access to the 2 bedrooms. The front bedroom is currently used as a study:
The bathroom’s updates include the tile flooring, a new tub and shower surround, and a pocket door (not pictured):
In the laundry room off the kitchen, a window (pictured) and a door (to the left of the washing machine and not pictured) have views into the back yard:
The listing mentions an extra room but doesn’t show it the photos — unless it’s referring to this storage shed at the back of the low-fenced 7,460-sq.-ft. lot:

Whew! So glad I purchased my Oak Forest home nine years ago. I could never afford to buy in the neighborhood now.
