Behold Friday’s sodden wreckage of the northernmost 33 percent of the Richmont Square apartment complex at 1400 Richmond, which is currently being erased to make way for the Menil’s upcoming drawing institute.

The most recent plans from L.A. architects Johnston Marklee call for a parking lot and a one-block easterly extension of W. Main St. from Loretto Dr. to cut through the southern portion of the demo site, with the drawing institute occupying the northern portion, tucked in behind the Menil-owned gray bungalows across Branard St. from Menil Park and the Rothko Chapel, a block east of the museum.
Here’s a rendering of the institute, looking north from the planned W. Main extension:

Good. The whole complex needs to be razed. It is over 40+ years old. Way past it’s prime and it shows.
