Where Gloria’s Is Going in Midtown

A reader sends in this pic showing the construction going on at the former Knights of Columbus building at the corner of Dennis and Louisiana streets in Midtown. Moving into the space formerly occupied by Ruby Tequila’s Mexican Kitchen, next to Bar Munich: the first Houston location of Gloria’s, a chain of Salvadorian-style Tex Mex restaurants based in Dallas. Yes, Gloria’s is the same chain that announced last year it would be purchasing the Westheimer spot long held by Ruggles Grill. But that didn’t happen; instead, Ruggles owner Bruce Molzan sold the spot to someone else and eventually shut down his restaurant entirely.

  • Does anybody know what’s going to happen with the former Ruggle’s?

  • I realize that all bars/restaurants come and go, but I went to Ruby Tequilas a few times (it was Wednesday that they had some great specials if I recall) and it seemed pretty buys. One time we walked down there and they said it was going to be a 1 hour wait.
That wasn’t long before they closed. I’m not in the restaurant biz but it seems amazing that you could go from having an hour wait for a table, to going belly up, that fast.

  • ask Mi Cocina, Bob’s, and Fuzzy’s how well Dallas-based concepts play out down here.

  • If Gloria’s doesn’t make it, it will be a damn shame. Because Gloria’s is awesome. When Crosspoint told me that they were coming I almost peed my pants.
