What’s going on at the east side of the Northwest Mall parking lot? a reader wants to know. It sure looks all torn up over something or other. The parking surface outside Macy’s looks freshly cleared, though planting season is at least a few months away.

Make way for the 290 expansion & the connection to i-10
Its the additional land that is being taken by TXDOT for the reconstruction of the US290-610 interchange that will have direct connector ramps from I-10 to 290.
When the get around to building the Hempstead Toll Road, the entire south parking lot of Northwest Mall will be gobbled up.
After that, the only practical use of the Macy’s would be as a climate-controlled, self-storage facility
290 – 610 interchange construction…
Winter wheat? Hopefully of the bulletproof variety?
Hey Look – It’s Northwest Mall’s biggest new tenant in decades!
There used to be a rumor that Walmart would be setting up shop where the Mall is now – on the periphery or as a Mall replacement – a la Northline. It’s even featured on some conceptual maps related to the Hempstead Hwy commuter rail idea. However, with the new store on Silber, that’s not gonna happen.
The Friends of the Houston Public Library would LOVE to make use of the old Macy’s for our book sorting and storage warehouse and book sales! It doesn’t have to be beautiful for us. How ’bout it?
Here is a link to the interchange plan – http://my290com000.web132.discountasp.net/Portals/0/Documents/FEIS/us290gschmortho_opt4_rev_ovrl.pdf
Dunno, jooky….NW Mall is just about the same distance from the Yale Wally World, and can cast its Ozarkian tentacles into a whole new market to the north….
I think they are trying to grow customers.
@Jan- that’s a great idea, but I think the ANtique Mall is moving into Macy’s since their (current) building off i10 is being bulldozed for the same reason.
Can one hope that the new interchange will put a silver bullet into the heart of El Chaparral Night Club?
thats clever
Jan … e-mail me at lgilliam@ucrrealty.com. I have another idea for you. Lance
Tha antique mall has moved in.
That is fantastic, the home sales in this area are steadily increasing. We need all the highway space possible.
Actually, the Antique Outlet moved into DIllards. Macy’s still looks vacant.
Antique Center of Texas is going in to the former J.C. Penney site.
Hope all the loys in the general area will gain value.
Rick… you mean “lots” ??? Im sure it will… Things are getting very exciting in that area…. Here is a Comparative market analysis on all real estate in a 1-Mile Radius from NW Mall…

Enjoy… :) Merry Christmas
Where will they put the craptastic carnival with all the death trap rides, now?
The cheesy carnival? Maybe Tillman Fertitta will buy it and install it in the parking lot next to McCormick & Schmick’s on Post Oak. You know, like the Aquarium downtown smack up against the Theater District, just expanding the Fertitta brand of bad taste and disproportion.
Thats a great question actually. NW Mall makes a substantial profit from leasing the carnival area. Hummm….. I leased it once there for 25k for 2 weeks plus they received the door fee.
Yep cheesy carnival make lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$
the antique mall is where penny’s was not Dillard’s was never a Dillard’s there. Foley’s Macy’s Penny’s and Palais Royal have been the anchors there. wish and hope some of it will be renovated
