Japanese dollar and 100-yen store Daiso has signed a lease for a 10,998-sq.-ft. spot at 501 S. Mason Rd. in the Mason Park shopping center, east of Mason Creek and the Barker reservoir. NewQuest Properties says the retailer was drawn to the location on S. Mason south of I-10 because of its proximity to Asian grocery chain 99 Ranch Market, which is currently getting the former Kroger spot in the center ready for a summertime opening.

The first of 2 Texas Daisos opened northwest of Dallas last July next to a 99 Ranch as well; a dozen Daisos are planned for each the Houston and the DFW areas, and the company plans to open 50 stores in the state over the next few years. The chain currently has 41 stores in California and 6 in Washington.
The 99 Ranch and Daiso will open south of the Fiesta Mart and Dollar Tree located across Provincial Blvd. A NewQuest representative says Daiso will be opening its Houston area stores as soon as leased spaces are remodeled and ready to go — so while Mason Rd. is the first of the planned area leases signed, it may not end up as the first store to start operating.

Like a Dollar Tree with unusual and quirky products. Fun to shop once or twice a year. Who uses that much of that stuff anyway? They make a big production of letting you know “no returns” at point of sale.
This is a dream come true!
Sounds like fun. I’ve been to the Fit store on Bellaire Blvd. a few times, and it looks like this will be similar.
Come 4 times already. Never happen. Where is it????
It’s still an empty store. No remodeling, no nothing.
I walked by last month and was surprised to see people building out the space. There’s still a permit sign up with “Daiso” on it, and a “DAISO Coming Soon” sign, so it looks like Daiso just needed to let it age for 2 years.
.
It’s a shame they waited until after the Alamo Drafthouse left.
