Bill Gates Buys Downtown Four Seasons

BILL GATES BUYS DOWNTOWN FOUR SEASONS Really rich guy and charitable fellow Bill Gates is investing in one more good cause: He’s buying the 30-story Four Seasons Hotel at 1300 Lamar St., announcing yesterday that his Cascade Investments will close on the deal sometime next week. It’s not clear yet whether Gates, as is his wont, will start working to update the operating system of the 1982 hotel, which has 64 rental apartments and 404 rooms and is home to Quattro, the Italian restaurant, though Ralph Bivins speculates that he will. • how much did he pay for it?

  • 404 rooms…

HTTP ERROR 404: Hotel Room Not Found.

  • I’m wondering if they’ll demolish it and put up something bigger and better. A thirty-one year old building in almost ancient in this town. Cue the preservationist citing it as a beautiful example of xxxx style by an architect almost no one has heard of……

  • It’s great they’re planning on renovating, as this could probably tie in nicely on the Dallas St. revision. The bldg is really dated in it’s horse blinders orientation towards Lamar St.

  • Love this Hotel, Gates is brilliant, he knows a great investment when he sees it. Hmmmm, I’m guessing he didn’t require financing.

  • Shannon: If he’s smart (which he is), he’d of financed it. He can get cheap money loaned to him for these types of projects. He’s better of borrowing 70% of the price at ~4-5% and using the cash he didn’t have to spend on other projects that he can do much better with.

Buying all cash isn’t a great idea unless you have no other investment options for the money otherwise borrowed.

Nah, actually the architecture here pretty much sucks.
