BROADACRES HOA TAKES DOWN ITS ESPLANADE NO-PHOTOSHOOT SIGNS The Broadacres Homeowners Association has removed all signs posted on the esplanades along North, South, and West boulevards welcoming visitors and telling them photoshoots are prohibited. As to whether the esplanades are public or private property — that’s still up in the air: “The homeowners association said the property was deeded to the group in the 1920s, and is looking for the documentation to enforce its ban.” The HOA initially placed the 11 signs on the esplanades last Thursday. Now, it’s not up in the air. City says it’s public property.

City of Houston confirms they ARE public ROWs. See Miya Shay’s post. https://www.facebook.com/ABC13MiyaShay/photos/a.566581840071151.1073741825.134478666614806/1611476405581684/?type=3&theater
Swamplot party on the esplanades! Woohoo!!
The photoshoots sound like a real pain in the arse. Perhaps the neighbors could gather for large walks during peak photoshoot times?? Make sure to get their proper use out of the public space and photobomb as many shoots as possible.

I live in Boulevard Oaks and walk and drive on North and South regularly. Glad this was resolved because I’ve never seen any trash on the esplanade from a photo shoot. During certain times of the year there is a lot of bird poop on South though.
The neighbors should buy gorilla costumes and run around the photo shoots.
I also like the idea of having the sprinklers on remote control.
I’ve been walking around North and South Boulevard for over 35 years and although there has been an increase in photo shoots,it is not a major issue as I see it. I would be more concerned with the status of the Oak trees and protecting the beautiful bird nests along South. Yep, the bird crap can be awful.
Now comes the question of the private park signs …. just how “private” is the park? Were the taxes reduced because there was an agreement with the city that the public would be able to use the park? The people need to know especially since the apparent false claim of the esplanades being private property.
Looks like a great place for a BBQ party. (I jest about the BBQ of course, but the status of the park would be good to know.)
Let’s be real – it was never about the photos, or the “trash”. It was about who was taking the photos, and who the photos were being taken of. They didn’t “fit the character of the neighborhood”.
The park is definitely owned by the Boulevard Trust. Not only that, it has had a “this is a private park” sign for at least 30 years. Sources: (a) HCAD history of account 0530390000029 back to 1984, (b) I lived around the corner in the summer of ’85.
@ GoogleMaster,
I have no doubts who owns the park, but if the CoH gave them tax reductions for public access to the park. Why else would that valuable piece of land have such a low tax rate. Perhaps I should dictate that my yard is actually a private park and have HCAD significantly reduce my taxes.
Wow, TMR is saying that minorities leave a lot of trash in public right of ways. Shameful.
worse, TMR is implying both that and that the residents of Broadacres are racist without a hair of evidence. Shameful.
damn you cant even call anyone a racist these days without it hurting someone’s feelings. these pc nazis have gone too far.
I see lots of 15 year old white girls taking their quinceanera pictures there. Y’all racists
