COMMENT OF THE DAY: BACK IN THE WILD DAYS OF CASTLE COURT “I’m sure the townhouses on Mandell near Castle Court are quite nice, but what could ever compare to the story of the house formerly on the site that housed Hugo the gorilla? Thanks to a friend who lived nearby, seeing him remains one of my most vivid memories after over 40 years.” [Hellsing, commenting on Comment of the Day: You Can’t Buy Home Again; more info]
Hellsing– Is that gorilla story true?
Holy Toledo!
A family member, now deceased, used to tell anyone with an ear about that gorilla. I just rolled my eyes…….. Was it true?
Hugo was real. My mom and dad lived in a garage apt behind the house. She remembers Hugo living in a yard or courtyard with the house windows open to the gorilla. She remembers it being a bit smelly in the house.
Absolutely – enjoy!

Last one has a link to a wonderful story written by a former garage apartment tenant of the Greers, but one has to be registered on the forum to access.
Drove up Mandell this morning and thought of Hugo. My 5-year-old son was thrilled to learn that grandma once lived near a real live gorilla.
I found this story:
