COMMENT OF THE DAY: NO RESPECT FOR THE LAND “I was so infuriated when developers planted these oak saplings on what was once a lovely, open prairie!” [Unsid, commenting on Tying White Ribbons ’Round the Doomed Oak Trees: Is H-E-B Coming to Wilshire Village?]
From Unsid:
You are pretty much right.
In 1924 the corner of Richmond and Dunlavy looking north to Alabama are denuded fields (I have the photos).
It’s possible that at one time before it became farm fields there where forests there, but not in 1924.
However, that does not mean that just because they weren’t “old growth” doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be preserved.
