COMMENT OF THE DAY: WHEN THEY RAISED GREAT GRANNY’S “This house has some wonderful history. It was originally a one story that was raised up by cranes and the ground level story was built underneath. During WW One, they would roll up the rugs and host dances for the soldiers. It was the home of my great grandparents who lived there with their children when they moved from PA. My two spinster Great Aunts lived there all their lives. It broke the hearts of the family when it had to be sold but no one had the means to buy and restore it. I wanted to share for those of you that had posted the kind comments.” [Renee Lauckner, commenting on Corner Lot Hidden Away for Decades Beneath 1904 Heights House Could Join the Commercial Crowd] Photo: Swamplot inbox
Awesome comments! Thanks for posting! …this is how personal history can impact our community history! Thanks for posting!
I always wondered about this beautiful home. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing the history of this home! It’s a landmark when passing down 20th, and I’d always hoped someone would buy and restore it. Very sad to hear that may never happen. Hopefully, if it is demolished, some of it is salvaged to live on elsewhere in Houston.
Would be a beautiful house anywhere. Where there is a will there is a way. Seems like it could be moved onto another lot in the area for someone who wanted to renovate it. At north of $185 a sq/ft to build new but probably more (Guessing this has 10-14ft ceilings throughout) it might be worth it.
Quarter acre lots about a mile away $450k’ish
