There’s a changing of the guard at the strip-center endcap at 10705 Westheimer in Westchase. Workers have been taking down the signs; the Smashburger in that location closed for good on Monday. A reader claims that the burger joint, on a small strip directly adjacent to the McDonald’s at the corner of Wallingford Rd., was the chain’s worst-performing store. And: that the location has already been reserved for Dunkin’ Donuts. A franchise group plans to open 16 new Dunkin’ Donuts stores in Houston over the next 6 years.

Bet Dunkin’ Donuts doesn’t last as long as Smashburger. If there’s a Shipley’s anywhere nearby.
I wonder what happened? I ate at this location a number of times and the food was always delicious and the service was always fast and polite. What a shame. SmashBurger, you will be missed.
The dunkin’ sign was up for a day, now down as the pink paint job is underway. Dunkin’ Donuts is going to do just fine and will be legit competition for Shipley’s. I stopped at one in Beaumont last year and it is SIGNIFICANTLY better than Shipley’s. I am a Houston native and some will consider that blasphemy. I spent more time at dunkin’ when I was a kid here in Houston and I welcome them back. This location is damn close to a Shipley’s AND a Kolache Factory. Not skeered.
