Neighborhood Guessing Game Over: Those Kitty Pillow Eyes

Do we have a prizewinner for this week’s Neighborhood Guessing Game? Who wouldn’t want to win a membership in the Rice Design Alliance?

Your guesses were almost all over the place: Pearland (3), Friendswood, Webster, League City (2), Kingwood, Richmond, Champion Forest (2), “along Briar Forest and Dairy Ashford,” Meyerland (2), Meyerland “near Westbury High School,” Braeswood (3), Bear Creek, Clear Lake (2), Deer Park (2), near MacGregor Way, Pasadena (2), “the ritzy part of Pasadena over around Fairmont Parkway and Young St.,” Lake Olympia, Missouri City, Sharpstown, Sugar Land, Alvin, Katy, Humble, Spring Branch north of Long Point (2), “East Side,” “some more rural area of Fort Bend County,” Baytown (2), LaPorte, Lake Jackson, Inwood Forest, near Jersey Village, “the Champions/Spring area” (2), Fondren Southwest, Alief, “the area around South Post Oak, way down past 610 south,” Sagemont, Atascocita, “between Hwy 6, 1464, and Bissonnet, . . . south of George Bush Park,” Stafford, “Kempwood and Gessner,” “near Knob Hill Park near Gessner and Hammerly,” southeast Tomball, Tanglewood, and Marilyn Estates.

Lots of great guesses . . . but none of them right. What made this one so difficult? Finness tried to put a . . . finger on it:

From the pink Texas door mat to the empty bathroom plant hooks and the ovewrwhelming scent of litter pan – I just look and look again and the mind boggles. I will forever be haunted by the kitty eyes on the toss pillows on the pink leather sofas. Even writing that gives me an out of body sensation. Senses overwhelmed.

Where is this place?

  • Damn, would not have guessed Memorial. I guess my stereotypes are a little too rigid, huh?

  • Indeed – I was sure this was south of town…
This 1/2 acre will probably be scraped for a new mansion. Goes to show there are a lot of lots close-in…

  • OMG. I was going to guess Hedwig Village just to skewer all of the stereotypes. I would have been right!

  • Who in Memorial has iron *burglar bars* on a patio door?!?

  • No effing way! Well, at least there is a waste water treatment plant or some other weird thing next door keeping it real. Man, this place reminds me of my wife’s toothless cousin wearing his La Jolla Country Club blazer while tooling around the trailer park in Truth-or-Consequences, NM where he resided in the “off season”.

  • I am going to assume this is selling as a tear-down. I can’t imagine anyone walking into this w/ ideas for a remodel.

  • Geez, I could walk there from my office. This is no doubt a tear-down. I drive by there all the time and didn’t have a clue. Great choice Gus.

  • Gus, great choice! It fooled us all and that is a good thing to keep up guessing :-).

EARTH TO ‘REALTOR’. Remember your target market. Even if this is across the street from the local water district tanks, this neighborhood is in one of Houston’s best for schools and Oil industry folks. This will be a tear-down, not a remodel, in all likelihood. Stating ‘WONDERFUL ONE-STORY HOME…WELL CARED FOR & SOME UPDATING MAKE IT MOST DESIRABLE’ will NOT sell this house for the folks that are most looking in this particular area. Chances are, they are looking for multiple turrets, granite countertops, or a tear-down.

  • It really is a shift in lifestyle isn’t it? The perfect grassy expanse for playing catch on summer evenings and hosting Saturday lemonade-stands will no doubt become the gated courtyard of a private enclave.
