THE PARTY WILL GO ON AT HANS’ BIER HAUS The little bar in the long shadow of the 2520 Robinhood at Kirby Condominiums can keep its alcohol license, a TABC hearing judge ruled today. Residents of the Rice Village condo building contested the license renewal of Hans’ Bier Haus after earlier efforts to silence nosy patrons — with beer cans, lasers, water hoses, and video surveillance — failed. “In his decision, Donovan noted that although police had been called to the bar more than 20 times for noise, they never were cited. . . . The feud continues to be litigated in civil court.” [Houston Chronicle; previously on Swamplot]
The bar was there first. I have lived in that area for 30 years. I have been a patron at that bar, when we use to park in the field where the condo exist. I have also been there when the condo residents have complained of noise and rowdiness when there wasn’t any. I was there the night they sprayed down the bar patrons and the band with a water hose. The condo association filed a compliant because a movie was being shown on the parking garage wall. That place has had several different management companies because the residents and property owners difficult to deal with, they coerce their employees into writing false “noise complaints”, then fire then when they refuse. Did Mr. Cave show poor judgement by roughing up the concierge? Sure, but when one of the musicians had slipped on the water and broke a bone, the amplifiers were getting soaked and there was a danger of someone getting electrocuted, there was not time to call the police.
I don’t have a dog in this fight, but this makes me happy.
I am so happy for Hans’. And that is good news for Houston. Sometimes the little guy wins. Now 2520 Robinhood, you lost the fight, play nice.
I’m glad too. Never been there but it looks like a place my husband and I would like. Not ‘uppity’.

That of course to me is a criminal matter. And should have been pursued as one. What if someone had been electrocuted?
These people with “Southampton Syndrome” need to be put in their place. Thankfully in this case TABC did just that.
This decision should send a broad message to 2520 Robinhood as well as any other Tower’s of Evil in Houston who think because they reside a few feet in the air that laws do not apply to them.
Frankly, I am embarrassed for the residents who have to assume guilt by association for the residents who have assualted Hans patrons and wasted HPDs time with baseless calls over the last few years.
Perhaps in September after the highrise loses the pending lawsuit, and they are forced to pay a few million in damages they will learn the manners their mama should have taught them for free.
Tower of Hans – Coming Soon!
The good folks at Hans’ have been kind enough to offer use of their facilities for several fundraisers, including one this Sunday evening (July 11) for SE Texas Labrador Rescue. Come show your support for Hans’ Bier Haus and local animal rescue. Let’s hope the snots next door can behave themselves.
So, I was watching the news last night and they mentioned that someone, they dont know who, dumped a bunch of raw meat in the alley between the condos and the bar. Bar employees are prohibited from going in there and cleaning because of a restraining order. I don’t think they said anything about condo owners being allowed or not. Either way it is now rotting and turning off customers with the smell. :-/
I would not be surprised if this was another move by the condo association. That seems like a public health issue and should be investigated by the city health department.
@ artrain – it has to be from the condo complex, I just looked it up and no one at the complex will clean it. I’m sure the city health dept. knows at this point and will hopefully go in there and clean it up. I don’t know if they can fine the complex but I hope they can, what a dirty nasty trick.
I think someone should call Anne Clutterbuck’s office and demand the Health Department address the public health issue immediately.
And then the rest of us should place bets as to 1) how long it takes Anne Clutterbuck’s office to call back and 2) how long it takes the Health Department to send someone out.
Anne Clutterbuck. Another one suffering from Southampton Syndrome.
I tried calling her (AC) office. They tell you to call 311.
This sounds like more harassment from the condos. I would document it and use in court.
