WHO WANTS NUMBERS NOW? The Press‘s Katharine Shilcutt passes on the latest: “And in perhaps the strangest news this year, rumblings are coming from reliable sources that Numbers (314 Westheimer) — recently put up for lease — is being eyed by the Pappas family. Yes, that Pappas family. But wait — it gets weirder. The rumors also indicate that they plan to open either a chicken and rice or shrimp and rice joint in the spot where so many … unsavory … activities have taken place over the years. If the rumors prove to be true, would you eat at Numbers’ Chicken & Rice?” [Eating Our Words; previously on Swamplot]

I just would refrain from ordering any ‘special sauces’
ew ew ew
more sad news for old Houston landmarks.
but at least the restrooms might get updated.
I bet there will be a run on Numbers t-shirts this weekend.
Would you eat at “Numbers”? Remember the Locker – Do you eat at the Empire Cafe?
Locker? I thought it was called Meat Locker. wasn’t that the place that had all the used duct tape?
Eeewww! Grody to the max!!
oh my god!!! i hope they put in new restrooms!
More likely a demolition and rebuild.
In Mexican slang when someone says I’m gonna give you “Pappas” it means back door action is on the way!
wow.
and lol @ Nate…ew.
I still won’t eat at Carraba’s on Kirby.
Did Carrabas on Kirby’s used to be a sexklub? The ManHole? What’s up?
Jerry
I heard it was a bookstore but don’t know the name. You know, one of THOSE bookstores….
So, uh, Pappas will only offer the #1 or #2 platters?
I can’t imagine eating there. I once saw the Jim Rose Circus perform there and everyone had to sit on the floor. I’ve never gotten over that all these years later. The idea of cozying up to a plate of shrimp and grits? Hell no.
Last night at numbers was an utterly weird event, half the suburbs were in attendance, kids with signs, and everywhere and everyone in between. And so far no runs on the tshirts, yet. They have shows booked through April and after that….?
Oh please, Carrabba’s on Kirby was a dirty bookstore; Empire Cafe was the leather bar Chutes; it’s not like they don’t hose out the semen and ecstacy remnants before the building is rebranded.
The old Mary’s on Montrose surely has got to have all those places beat. Wondering what will become of that ?
Well THAT was a trip down memory lane. My friend broke up with her boyfriend after seeing him come out of “Carrabba’s.”
The last time I was at Numbers, my future husband and I saw Divine perform….director John Waters’ Divine. A couple of months later, ‘she’ was deceased.
Semen and ecstasy remnants, bahahaha. That reminds me of how I was thinking how nice it is that the Usual has really taken off. I remember seeing a sofa in the dumpster once when it was the, ahem, spa – ugh! Montrose needs a revitalization, but why not start at any of the other empty spots? Not that I feel bad that there is one less bathroom available to snort coke out of, it just seems like there are other places to start.
