Keeping It Straight and Simple in a Stude Cottage

Red-crested and around the block from the Heights Transit Center on North Main, an updated 1940 Stude cottage has been sticking to its initial $285,000 asking price. After a 3-month first attempt, ending in February 2013, the neatly trimmed property took a spring break (while the market heated up). Earlier this week, the same agent relisted the basic-but-boosted cottage at the same price. It last sold for $227,000 back in January 2010. That was after a 2009 remodeling project overhauled the interior but kept the old-timey ribbon driveway with hinged gate.

At just over 1,000 sq. ft., the space-efficient home is one the smaller ones on its block of original postwar homes and newer townhomes. Think of its layout as two slices of living space running front-to-back. The front door (above) opens into the living-dining-kitchen lineup.

The other side of the home contains 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. This carpeted master bedroom is at the back of the house:

A small brick patio off the kitchen connects to a 2-car garage with extra storage space.

An open house for the property is scheduled for today.

  • It’s on the wrong side of Main, but looks like a very nice little 2/1 with a good lot and 2/1.. I don’t think they’re off the mark at 285k.

  • Agree. The price looks about right for me.

    What’s a Stude cottage?

  • We looked at this one when we were buying our house last year. I’m pretty sure it also sits 1 lot away from the new brewery that is trying to move in. Could be a plus or minus depending on the person looking.

  • That should read “..good lot and 2 car garage.” Brain fart.

Also.. next to a new brewery?? Sign me up!
