Now that you’ve presented a house I’ve actually been in, I can see the other side of things, rather than just sit back and laugh. I was a guest at a dinner party in this house about 8 or 9 years ago, while it was still undergoing the transformation to its current state. The bathroom may seem over-the-top, but I found the rest of the house–the parts that had been finished–quite interesting and not at all gaudy. The problem, as I see it, is that if you want a house that offends nobody’s taste, you end up painting everything a shade of beige or something. But I digress. As I recall, a previous owner of the home–possibly the original owner–was far more eccentric. She was a widow with a deep fear of germs, and had installed sinks in every room and various corners of the house so she could wash her hands, which she did obsessively. At least that’s how I recollect the story. Anyway, it’s a lovely home, and it has (or had, at the time I visited) a small study/guest house behind it that I’m guessing was at one time a garage. It’s a good location, right off the main stretch of 19th St in the Heights, and while I have not seen the finished interior personally, I should think the asking price is quite reasonable.

i’m so confused. how many people decorated this house? it’s like one person was assigned each room and did whatever they wanted…

A couple of points to add, now that I’ve actually scrolled through the entire listing and all the photos: I see that the guest house behind the home is still there. And my comment about painting everything beige is obviously ironic, considering the color of the rest of the house. I was thinking back to that dinner party and how they had originally painted the interior: vibrant colors, yellow with blue trim, similar to the bathroom but without the painted tile and whatnot. I truly found the house to be charming at the time. I wonder if they repainted the rest of the interior rooms to please potential buyers.
