Built in 1977, a sprawling, stucco and partially stone-faced contemporary home in the Piney Point Village neighborhood called Windermere endured a big update in 2010 — as well as some sort of 1997 rebuild. Last week, the property’s re-listing flipped a couple of digits in its asking price: It’s now $1.56 million, down from the $1.65 million initial tag from a 2013 listing. (A later reduction had fallen as far as $1.595 million before timing out earlier this month.) Served by a circular driveway, the corner pocket lot on lasso-shaped Windermere Ln. backs up to the Fondren Rd. dogleg north of Westheimer.

Patio, pool, waterfall, and koi pond unfold beyond the 4 sets of French doors lining one wall of the grand-scale (as in 30 ft. by 34 ft.) living room. Adding volume, drama, and AC costs, a 24-ft. ceiling accommodates a mighty stone-and-granite fireplace (see top photo), a split staircase (above), and a mezzanine currently used as a music room, which somehow harbors a storage compartment beneath it:
Glass cubes beneath a counter set up a neat walk-in, sit-down bar between the living room, mezzanine, and tented media center:
The dining room serves courtyard and patio views:
One of the 2 master suites is on the first floor and has direct access to the pool:
The other is upstairs, with a pool view:
Even before the reflections from multi-mirrored walls, some master bathroom features double up, such as the vanity sinks . . .
and spa tub capacity, beneath its domed lighting:
The 6,338-sq.-ft. home’s other 4 bedrooms and baths (there are 7 and a half in total) are mentioned but not depicted in the listing.
Above the living room, a balcony links 2 wings and spans a veranda below it:
Guest quarters perch poolside above one of the 2 garages:
Some features of the heavily landscaped yard are walk ons . . .
though some, like this sweet sculpture of a stoned Alice in Wonderland, are fixed:
The koi pond blends both:

Money can’t buy taste.
Just about every photo here deserves its own “listing photo of the day” entry!
They have the listing wrong; this house is actually zoned to Kinkaid.
What a strange mishmash of styles. I love the herringbone hardwood pattern in the music room. Does the peacock come with the house?
Aren’t the peacocks from Vargo’s all gone from this neighborhood by now?
