CYPRESS BARBECUE TRAILER THREATENED WITH GUN VIOLENCE FOR SUPPORTING OPEN CARRY Perennial Allison Cook’s Top 100 listee Brooks’ Place, the parking lot barbecue joint in Cypress which began offering a discount on New Year’s Day to those visibly bringing a holstered gun to the establishment, received a review via its Facebook page this morning threatening a Saturday shootup (with explicit reference to the spot’s “gun-toting patrons”). Owner Trent Brooks tells the Houston Chronicle’s Sid Kearney that he has contacted the authorities and that he is “not taking the threat lightly, not with all the crazy stuff that is going on in the world today.†But the barbecue shed-trailer will be open this Saturday, with peace officers stationed nearby if necessary. Again, i expect nothing but reasonable and insightful comments.
Well… that’s kind of ironic.
I know where I will be eating this Saturday.
Irony. Why are police officers needed? Armed citizens create a safer environment for all doncha know.
Isn’t just a “threat” and not “threats”? I’ll not surprise if a horde of OC proponents show up to “protect” the business from this “threat”. Of course they’ll all be looking each over for gestures and remarks that could be threatening. Sounds like a great place to take the family on Saturday, huh?
Yikes – let me try that again:

I hate guns in public…I’m gonna shoot you with a gun, in public? Does not compute.
Good catch, Dave! Headline has been tweaked.
There seems to be a lot of hidden hate and violence disguised as compassion among the anti-gun crowd. Agree with their liberal dictates or face execution.
Interesting all the hate on open carry. All the wonderful gun carrying criminals can just continue carrying their weapons, but someone that actually takes a course on gun safety, abides by all the requirements and paperwork to carry that firearm and openly shows (not hides) the weapon is the threat?? I guess ignorance truly is bliss. If I don’t see it, it must not exist. Laws are written for people that abide by laws. Criminals can do what they want, as long as they don’t get caught… Makes perfect sense..
The smell of b.s. is strong with this one.
The PR stunt continues…
@Jay: I’m pretty sure it’s more fear than hate. If we start to see people walking everywhere with guns on display, do we assume they are all law abiding citizens? If so, that’s a great place for a criminal to hide!
reminds me of the numb nuts in whitney that vandalized his own truck in the war on police
@Jay, as an anti-gun person I would be less agitated if the level of gun responsibility you are suggesting is true. If everyone who has a gun has had proper training, proper paperwork, and abides by all the requirements of gun ownership I would have significantly less of an issue with seeing someone carry openly. The problem is, that’s not happening. The reality is I know nothing about that person that shows up at the local Kroger with a holstered gun. And if I’m with my kids, its even more stressful.
@Jeff, It’s easy to find out. Get your CHL and you will know what everyone else has done at a minimum.
Can we just leave all of these nutjobs to themselves and get back to talking about real estate trends, tips, and topics?
ahhh Jeff,
.
your sentiment on guns is the same as my sentiment with cars. how many people allowed to openly drive a car have appropriate instruction and of those, how many respect the 2 ton death machine they are driving?
.
this is relevant because motor vehicle deaths are higher than gun deaths.
.
I assume you recoil every time you see someone driving, and are as stressed with your kids in the car as you are any time you see a gun? No, you’re probably complacent to the car thing because you see them all the time and are used to the much higher risks associated with cars, vs guns.
@Jeff, those things Jay mentioned were all the things you have to do to get a License to Carry, and anyone who is open carrying almost certainly has a license because if they don’t they are begging to be arrested.
@Heights Walmart
uhh what? How do we know the dude with gun on his hip is licensed to do so? Please explain.
@I Love Heights Walmart: Some Texas legislators claim law enforcement officers do not have the right to stop someone and ask for their CHL just because they are carrying a weapon. There was an amendment to this law that would have explicitly prohibited that, but it was dropped as unnecessary. So I don’t think carrying a weapon without a CHL is begging to be arrested.
Why is this law so hard for people to deal with? I mean, Texas is the 45TH STATE to open carry, are the other 44 state populations all dead in shootouts? I just think it’s odd for the star of the west to be near last in the race to open carry.
You don’t need any kind of license to carry a long gun at all. You never have. You weren’t allowed to “open carry” pistols until this law changed, and I think you need a CHL to open carry a pistol (which…is a bit ironic), but there’s no such thing as a “license to carry”. That’s northern yankee nonsense.
the hate against open carry has nothing to do with open carry itself, but the ignorance and disrespect of the politicians that feel this is actually a worthy endeavor to waste tax dollars on for the safety of the citizens of this state while no steps are taken to reign in the mass flow of unregistered and illegal texas guns that end up in the hands of criminals and desperate youths both inside and outside of this state. the reason people are for open carry is because we have a huge illegal gun trade problem, yet open carry will take no steps in providing additional protection for citizens against this large problem.
.
this is why people joke about it and are against open carry, because it’s a pointless diversion to a very important safety issue that would be laughably preposterous if it wasn’t so downright disrespectful to those that do live in high crime neighborhoods and are forced to live in fear of illegal guns on a daily basis.
.
Toasty, perhaps you should sit back sometime and try and wonder why we don’t have nearly as big an issue with people being killed with unregistered/illegal cars as we do with guns.
and at risk of showing my true colors here, as someone knowledgable enough to know that having guns in my household presents a risk to me and my family (white males are most likely to be treated for self inflicted gun wounds, greater chance of kid killing him or friend with it than being used against an assailant) that far surpasses the risk of encountering a perpetrator, i think it’s perfectly reasonable for folks to find it highly irresponsible for others to needlessly display guns in front of my young children in the same manner I’m offended when people engage in many other types of perfectly legal activiites around them such as profanity, smoking, wearing too short shorts or baggy pants. i havne’t seen a response yet that addresses why any respectable person raising a family shouldn’t feel this way.
.
sometimes i would like to see common courtesy respected as much as peoples individual freedoms.
@Jeff: Same could be said for anyone driving a car, carrying mace in their purse or pocket, or even carrying a nail gun in their tool bag . How much do you know about the guy driving on the road next to you with a 5000 lb vehicle capable of significant damage? What type of morning they had, if they took their pills etc. Do they even have insurance? TBH we don’t and the same goes for anything in life.
…..

The problem is, that’s not happening. The reality is I know nothing about that person that shows up at the local Kroger and is parking right next to me or if they are going to stop while I cross the street to get to my car.” Seems your statement could be said for anything in life. Should we ban car ownership next? would that make any of us feel less stressful?
This stunt got the food truck a lot of PR but made them look like dummasses.
Of course who ever threatened the place with a shoot-out was the Supreme Dumbass.
I’m just so happy pro-open-carry, pro-gun, in-your-face craziness did not go down after Jan.1.
Generally CHL holders prefer to keep their guns hidden – safer for them.
@MrEction, the open carry law changed the name of the license to License to Carry
